Privacy Policy

This policy describes the data handled when someone visits Lamar County Criminal History, why that data may be used, and when an outside provider may receive it. Continued use of the website indicates acceptance of these privacy practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

Names or locations entered into a search box go to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. Lamar County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

If you email us, the message is retained long enough to respond and manage the exchange. It is not shared outside the organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, servers may collect routine technical information about the visit:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • Device type and operating system
  • Browser name and version
  • Internet Protocol address
  • Visited pages and time spent on them
  • The referring website, when available

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small device files that help measure site use, including popular pages and exit points. Analytics providers may combine visits into traffic reports. A browser can block cookies, although doing so may change how some site functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Operate, secure, and improve site performance
  • Route a query to the selected outside search provider
  • Find errors and diagnose technical problems
  • Measure which reference pages visitors use
  • Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

This site does not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to Lamar County courts and the sheriff, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency criminal-history repository, Alabama corrections resources, and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Sex Offender Registry. Alabama public writings are addressed by the Alabama Open Records Act, principally Ala. Code § 36-12-40, while state Criminal History Record Information and its dissemination are governed by Ala. Code §§ 41-9-590 and 41-9-636. Visitor data is not turned into a consumer report, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies power the search boxes. Their own privacy rules apply to information entered there, including retention and sharing practices. Lamar County Criminal History does not control those practices. Review a provider's privacy policy before submitting a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Alabama agencies, Lamar County court resources, legal information, advertisers, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination's privacy policy governs that visit. Review it before providing personal data.

Advertising companies may use their own systems to track activity across websites for targeted advertising. That processing does not occur on systems controlled by this site.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. It may be available to:

  • Analytics vendors that measure traffic and performance
  • Outside search providers that process a visitor's query
  • Advertising networks that serve page advertisements
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for data within our control. No online system can be guaranteed secure in every circumstance, so this policy does not promise that a breach or loss can never occur.

Users Under 18

The website is intended for adults. It does not knowingly collect personal data from a person under 18. Information identified as belonging to a minor will be deleted when a valid request establishes the issue.

Your Data Rights

Data rights depend on applicable Alabama and federal law. The Alabama Open Records Act, principally Ala. Code § 36-12-40, concerns public writings held by government offices, while Ala. Code §§ 41-9-590 and 41-9-636 govern state Criminal History Record Information and its dissemination. Subject to the law and the data actually held by this private site, a visitor may:

  • Ask what personal information is retained
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Request deletion when no legal duty requires retention
  • Use available controls to opt out of certain processing

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised. A new version will appear here with an updated effective date, and continued use after posting is governed by that version.
